About Us

Be a Christ to the Poor Foundation,which was created in 2002, is now Be a Christ to the Poor, Inc. According to a letter from the Internal Revenue Service in Cincinnati, dated November 22, 2009, this organization is tax exempt under section 501 (C) (3) and is classified as a public charity. Its ID# 31173.

Its Mission: Support the ministry of Hoima Diocese represented by Fr. George Ssebadduka, Ph.D. This includes:

  • to bring hope to orphans in Hoima Diocese, Uganda, whose parents died of AIDS
  • to support girls and women in rural communities within the Diocese through education and economic empowerment
  • to bring clean water and health services to the rural parts of the Diocese
  • to offer leadership training to both lay and religious

Who are the rural poor of Uganda?

More than two thirds of the country’s poor people are small farmers. They are scattered all over the country. They make up approximately 80% of the population. Although efforts have been made to reduce rural poverty, urban areas have experienced a significantly greater reduction in poverty than the countryside.
